Trapper, lumberman settled area
Named for the west branch of the Schuylkill River, Branch Township was separated from Norwegian Township in 1836.

Mark Britton, a sawmill operator, and Jacob Hime, a lumberman and trapper, are believed to be two of the earliest settlers, coming in the 1750s.

Peter Starr, a soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, was a local patriot.
