One of the Schuylkill County communities split by Interstate 81, Foster Township is a mostly rural township.

Formed in 1855 from Butler, Barry and Cass townships, Foster’s most notable operations are the Commonwealth Environmental Systems landfill and the Highridge at 81 business park. It was named in honor of Associate Judge Solomon Foster of Pottsville.
