It’s Schuylkill County’s largest township
The Appalachian Trail passes through the township and can be accessed where it crosses Route 309 near the top of the Blue Mountain.

Among the attractions in West Penn is the JEM Classic Car Museum along Route 443.

The township was formed from Northampton County in 1811. It is the largest township in Schuylkill County and one of the largest in the state. Its earliest settlers were the Gilbert, Ohl and Steigerwalt families. The area was originally populated by native Americans who at one point had driven early settlers out of the location to points south of the Blue Mountain.
