Named for 1800s war hero

Butler recently celebrated its sesquicentennial. As is the case
for many small communities, its name comes from a war hero: William Orlando Butler, who served in both the War of 1812 and the Mexican War in 1848.

Surrounding Gordon and Girardville, and bordering Ashland and Frackville, Butler is a sizable township. It is home to Ashland Regional Medical Center.
