Catawissa railroad made daily stops
Formed from Union Township in 1867, North Union is at the northern tip of Schuylkill County, with Luzerne County along its northeastern border and Columbia County to the west. Its earliest known settler was Conrad Faust, who came to the area in 1806.

Albertus Miller came in 1809 and in a few years, settlements were made in various parts of the township.
