Mechanics were first settlers
Another small borough that represents an extension of Pottsville, Mechanicsville was laid out by John and Robert Long in 1836.

It was incorporated as a borough in 1914, and was originally part of Port Carbon.

Many of the original settlers were mechanics associated with the area’s industrial trade.
