Tiny borough is county’s smallest community
Regarded as an extension of Pottsville and located at the south end of the city’s South Centre Street, Mount Carbon has the smallest population of all 67 municipalities in the county.

Incorporated as a borough in 1864, its location near the head of the Schuylkill Canal and the terminus of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad was of considerable commercial importance in the early days of the county.
