Both the railroad and canal ‘landed’ here
Landingville was established along the former Philadelphia & Reading Railroad line and was earlier known as Orwigsburg Landing.

Positioned along the Schuylkill River, Landingville was another important stop along the Schuylkill Canal.

The borough was incorporated in 1888. In its early days, it was devoted principally to the manufacture of shoes and leather goods. Also, the coal storage yards of the Reading Company were situated there.
