Name honors 1800s war officer
New Ringgold was named for Major Samuel Ringgold, the first American officer killed in the Mexican War.

The settlement became a borough in 1877, but its history dates to about 1850 when Daniel and Abraham Long erected a tannery.

The town’s location is on the Little Schuylkill branch of the former Philadelphia and Reading Railroad.
