Mining, farming blend in the fertile West End
Hegins Township, established in 1854, was named for Judge Charles W. Hegins of Sunbury, the first elected judge of the courts of Schuylkill County.

The Hegins and Valley View area involves a mix of coal mining and agriculture, where mountains of black gold slope into fertile farming fields.
