Once a bustling West End mining borough, Tremont and surrounding Tremont Township were wealthy Schuylkill County communities. The Richmond Screw plant is a key industry today.
Tremont takes its name from the French "tres mont," or three mountains: the Broad, Stony and Red. It was once a favorite hunting ground for the Delaware Indians.
Settlers from Berks County first came to Tremont in 1816. It was incorporated in 1866.
